It started in Rajasthan.
During the second year of my MBA course, I met this girl who happened to also be a "Singh". We got to talking, and dicovered that we both were Rajputs from U.P. This kicked in a long term friendship that began with a discussion of the superiority of U.P. Rajputs to the Rajasthani Rajputs and although we went our seperate ways, the camraderie exists to this day.
I always felt that our arguments were never substantiated. All Major Todd's book (I will talk on this Todd later in this topic) talked about was the Rajputs of Rajasthan (and Gwalior). There is no resource to describe the history of our people. The prevailing concept is that the Rajputs migrated from Rajasthan some 300 years ago spreading to neighbouring states all across the borders. It might be true, but I feel that this is not the case.
Rajput is a derivitive of Rajputra (Blood-line of royalty). It is a common descriptive of the North & Western Indian warrior caste (Kshatriya). The Kshatriya were of two main lines - the Suryavanshi (Descendents of the Sun) and the Chandravanshi (Descendents of the Moon) . These date to the epic times. Ram was a Suryavanshi and a Rajputra. Subsequently, all kings (few exceptions) were Kshatriya.
Somewhere along the medeival times, with the establishment of Rajputana along the Thar, Rajput became a term synonymus with those rajputs living in the current state of Rajasthan/Gujarat. The agni-kul (fire clan) was an off shoot of the Suryavanshi's, that arose with 4 major clans.
They were the Parmar, Pratihara, Chauhan and the Solanki(Chalukya) tribes. this is followed by even more detailed surnames like Khangarot, Rathore, Kachwaha, Gehlot, Bhati, Chandel etc..
..so it seems that if you have a middle or last name that announces your tribe name, the origin can be quite easily discovered...but if like me..all you know is that you are this Banarasi guy... a Kshatriya.. a thakur.. a durgavansi.. and Gotra Koutsa. You have always been called a rajput.. but am I really related to rajasthan?? or am I in a class of my own.
Thanks to you MS (the girl I mentioned above) we might definitively prove the UP superiority.
That's what this blog hopes to achieve. A better understanding of who we are, and more pride to our heritage.

Jai Rajputana.
Rajputs might have migrated from UP and MP to rajasthan and other parts of India .. as there was pressure from invaders ..rajputs established there territories in deserts and hills .. rathore belongs to kannauj,UP dikhits bias baghel sisodiya etc.. all were based primarily along rivers in up.. kinwar rajput lived beside ken river ....
I'm a Kinwar Rajput ( a branch of Dikkhit Suryavanshi Rajputs ) from Ballia, where my ancestors settled after moving from Ken river area in current Madhya Pradesh. So good to see your post , Rahul Singh Dikhit.

similarly Are Malls of Madhuban, Mau and Deoria are Kshatriyas?
Thakur ( Babu saheb) vo hai jo apne gauo me thakur hai . In other state and cities , anybody can be Rajput . Many great Rajput clans are not found in Rajasthan like Gautam , Baish , Janwar, Lohatamiya , Kinwar , Dixit ,Kaushik, Karmvar , Gonhiya, Dhekahs, Chandel, Bhutaha , Maunas , Sengar , Raghubanshi, Durgvanshi , Ujjain , Marwar , Suresr , Donwar .Jadeja , Beruaar ,kanpuria . This does not mean they are not Rajput’s . No certificate is required from col TOD .
Tod's work is now considered unreliable.
Same hereh.. . Even i am a nanwag from Jaunpur trying to find my roots pls contact me
Hi Everyone,
I have also gone through the history of Rajputs but everytime I land up with Rajasthan. In fact Rajasthan name was given by Bristishers for their ruling purpose. The origin of Kshatriya history started from Central India. Bihar and UP was having major dynasties . After Independence jagairdari and princely states was abolished by govt of India (Chaudhary Charan singh). UP experienced this situation harshly and if one compare with rest of the states of India. The implications of so called act has damaged the existing of rajput communities in UP. Today what we read rajput history is not true. It's reflects only one place. If we go through medieval history, there was no place called Rajasthan. There were places like Mewar and etc. It is irony that UP state is deciding factor in making govt at centre and ppl like Rajnath singh, Chandra shekhar singh(former Prime Minister) , VP singh and many more has no mention anywhere on the Rajput site. I never came across with their names.

Happy New Year All!. It has been quite the year with the Indian social scene moving massively towards a particular direction. This Blog is meant to be apolitical, therefore although we are supportive of freedoms of expression, I encourage any of our patrons to refrain from any inflammatory comments.
Hi Nobody is making any comment on anyoneand i dont think so i have made any political statement.I have gone through history but i dont find Rajputs history of Central india has been reflected anywhere.Even ppl perceived Rajputs are confined to certain area.I will be delighted if somebody has done research on origin.Even Maratha history of 150yrs was nowhere mentioned in the history. We read only abt Shivaji.
I am also a nanwag rajput from jaunpur.
I am also nanwag rajput from jaunpur.
You have correctly listed so many rajput clans, which never find mention.I,myself is a Gonhiya rajput, belonging to a large village called Gobhi ya chapra,(hence it's existentence),which is not in col.Todds books or anywhere, like many other clans...Can anybody tell me,which rajput clan out of mentioned we belong...Though we call ourselves as suryavanshi with Bhardwaj gotra..But which rajput exactly ..Not known...Some say Hariho or Haihayah orGautam...Please help.
Nanwags are from nagaur Sisodio king Ratan singh

I am also Nanwag rajput. According to some post on the internet i came to know that nanwag rajput is a branch of kachavaha rajput and the same is branch of suryavanshi rajput. We are the descendant of kush (son of shri ram). Proud to know all these. If any corrections or detailed information to be provided please add on.
Nanwag is a clan of Sisodiyas Rajputs in Uttar Pradesh. They migrated from Rajasthan in 16th century. Raja Tej Singh and Bagi Raja Sangram Singh are from this clan. They established and ruled the Mariahu tehsil.
