Happy New Year to my fellow rajputs

As the new year dawns, and I reflect on all the posts and responses - I am enthused by the sheer excitement we have to learn about our roots.

What is a Thakur?
In the 80s/90s - the broader Indian sub-continent, became well versed with the Bolly-wood depiction of the Thakur, as being the wealthy; greedy; haughty and unemotional landowner. While true in a few cases, as we know this is far from reality.

A Thakur  is synonymous with any person of Rajput heritage in U.P.; however considered a selective ruling title in Rajasthan and parts of East India. Many West Bengali Brahman's (Most notably Rabindranath Tagore - Anglicized from Thakur) have this name as do the Gond tribals from MP.

Outside of North India; even the term Rajput becomes vague. It is the term Kshatriya which truly encompasses us all - and brings us to the root heritage and links us to the time of Manu and our ancestors depicted in the great books of Ramayana and Mahabharata.

This year, lets explore our heritage in this regards.

Post ahead and Happy New Year again

It is highly unusual therefore unlikely for a Kshatriya Thakur from UP to disassociate themselves from the "Rajput" tag.

I see two possible reasons why this \mr. \singh may be doing this -
1. Ignorance - Quite a few folks from different parts of UP have not been give the exposure to their heritage, due to lack of knowledge of family history and cultural identity. Perhaps Mr Singh is one of these.

We must change this attitude amongst our youth, and rejuvenate pride in our background. Confidently reach out to your village elders or local kul-pandit to gain this knowledge. This is something which \i give high credit to our Rajasthani \brethren for maintaining till today.
2. Intelligence - Imagine a venn diagram - Mr Singh is actually right in the purest sense (Assuming this is the reason he adopted). Kshatriya's are found all over India - and are called by different names - All Rajputs are Kshatriya's; as are the Thakurs from eastern UP; etc...
The term Rajput is derived from Rajputra -and that is what this blog identifies with. A segment are derived from the glorious rajputana region, while many others are the natural successors to the Aryan varna system.... I can go on and on... but is this what Mr Singh is thinking?

Choose your pick - btw - where in \up is he from? Do you know his gotra? doe he have a supplementary title after Singh? Feel free to share additional detail...and we together can try to solve the mystery o Mr Singh
